The Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said:- The public are encouraged to be aware on the importance of preserving and protecting the environment.
- During the Movement Control Order (MCO), the quality of air and rivers have improved.
- The main challenge now is to continue taking care of the environment once the MCO is lifted as it is our responsibility.
- This is in line with the Islamic principles which call on the people to treat the Earth fairly and in a prosperous way.
The 50th Earth Day celebration with "Climate Action" as the theme, has already begun to organized several programmes and activities through the social media.
The programmes and activities, include special Earth Day 'webinar' (online seminar), nature talks, climate change discussion, creative videos and posters competition and screening of Eko movie on Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Fest (KLEFFlix). The objective is to bring forth the global efforts in the bid to reduce the climate change impact from the manmade works. "Although the celebration this year could not be celebrated due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, it will still be conducted as to express our collective intention to appreciate the Earth." -Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, The Environment and Water Minister
